NYU Medical Center, the facility where Project Kids Worldwide
was initially founded, is one of the nation's premier centers of excellence
in health care and medical research. NYU Medical Center is the principal
facility that provides care for the children identified and brought
by Project Kids Worldwide. NYU Medical Center consists of two
hospitals: The Tisch Hospital and the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation
Medicine, which together provide a range of superb clinical care matched
by few centers world-wide.
NYU School
of Medicine is one of the nation's preeminent academic institutions.
Established in 1841, the school's graduates have helped determine
the course of American medicine notably in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Fu Wai Hospital
is one of the largest cardiovascular centers in the world, and the
largest center in the Far East. They have twenty two surgeons and
perform 4000 cardiac surgery procedures each year. Sixty percent of
these are on children. Project kids Worldwide and NYU have established
a Sino-American Cardiac relationship with Fu Wai Hospital and Dr.
Qing-Yu Wu, Professor and Director of the Department of Cardiovascular
Surgery. The Cardiovascular Surgery Department of NYU Medical Center
with Dr. Stephen Colvin and Mr. Dennis Schwesinger co-sponsored three
International Symposiums on Advanced Techniques of Cardiovascular
Surgery with Dr. Wu in Beijing, China. There were heart surgeons
from around the world in attendance. Dr. Colvin and Dr. Grossi performed
several heart surgeries while in China, sharing information and ideas.
This spring, several cardiac surgeons from Fu Wai Hospital are coming
to NYU for several months for further cardiac training.
Kids
First Fund
Founded by the First Lady of the Republic Guyana, Uma Jagdeo is the
President of the charitable organization Kids First Fund. This strategic
partner sponsors emergency medical care for the sick children of this
underserved region. The organization is actively engaged in developing
systems to provide maternal and child health care and disease prevention
in the Republic of Guyana and the surrounding regions.
The
Organization for International Development Inc.
This organization was founded in 1990 by concerned professionals who
saw a need to improve the quality of life for people in remote and
underserved areas of the world such as several of the Caribbean Islands
and Ethiopia. The Organization for International Development is concerned
with the healthcare in these areas as well as their educational and
employment needs. The group is composed of professionals in the fields
of education, healthcare, engineering, computer science and technology.
Among the services provided to people in need are dental care, medical
treatment, nursing care, physical therapy education, and counseling
on disease prevention and health maintenance.
